When people visit the Sunshade Building for the first time, they often ask, "Who runs all this?" or "Is this one big studio or a bunch of different businesses?" The answer is: a little bit of both.
As a tenant myself, I want to share the story behind what makes this space so special and how our creative community works together to make the Sunshade Building a true gem just outside downtown Troy, Ohio.
A Historic Space, Reimagined
Located just across the tracks from downtown, the Sunshade Building is a historic three-story structure that has evolved into a home for artists, makers, and small business owners. Inside, you’ll find everything from handmade pottery and herbal remedies to photographers, marketers, and even a small-batch distillery.
If you haven’t yet read the full story of the building’s past, you can check it out here.
Who Does What Around Here?
The Sunshade Building is owned by Greg Taylor, also the mastermind behind the Hayner Distillery. He has lovingly maintained the space and helped bring in the eclectic mix of tenants that make it what it is today. While Greg keeps things running behind the scenes, there are a few of us helping out in other ways, too.
Unparallel, the digital marketing agency I co-own, is both a tenant and the team behind the website and digital storytelling. We're helping bring visibility to the building and its tenants through SEO-friendly content, Social Media, and this website.
As for events? That’s where I come in. I’m Brianna, and I’ve taken on the role of event coordinator for the building. I work with our tenants and outside vendors to bring open houses, creative markets, and community events to life right here in Troy. Check out our events page for more info!
What About the Warehouse?
You might see references to The Warehouse on social media or event flyers—so let’s clear that up.
The Warehouse is a separate studio and event space located within the Sunshade Building. It’s run by Olivia Peltier, and it often hosts its own events, workshops, and private rentals. While The Warehouse is part of the building community, it operates as its own independent business. We collaborate often, but it's helpful to know that it's not synonymous with the entire building.
Why It Matters
This blog is the start of something new for us. It's our chance to share stories from the building, spotlight the incredible makers who work here, and invite more of the community to engage with what we're creating together.
Whether you're a local shopper, a vendor looking to join our next open house, or someone just curious about Troy’s creative scene, this space is for you. Keep checking back as we add new blog posts, event updates, and behind-the-scenes features.
