We’re launching something new (and also a little familiar) at the Sunshade Building. A community market series that brings together artists, makers, and small businesses under one historic roof. Whether you're a local vendor looking for your next booth opportunity or just curious what it’s all about, here's your inside look at what to expect when you vend at Sunshade.
A Local Market Revival With a Twist
Longtime Troy residents may remember open house events at the Sunshade Building from years past. We're excited to bring those back, with a fresh approach. These events are part studio crawl, part curated market, and 100% focused on celebrating the creativity and vibrancy of our community.
Our first market, Summer Fest at the Sunshade Building, takes place Saturday, July 26 2025 from 12–4 PM. It’s free to attend, open to the public, and features a mix of indoor vendors, studio tours, and outdoor food trucks. We’re also teasing a fall event this November, so stay tuned for updates.
What It’s Like to Vend at Sunshade
Think of it as a blend between an indoor art show and a small-town community market. Studios throughout the building will be open, with guest vendors set up in hallways, shared spaces, and studios made available for this event.
Timeframe: Events typically run from 12–4 PM on Saturdays
Load-in: Friday from 12–5 PM or Saturday morning from 8–11 AM
Parking: Ample parking is available on the right-hand side of the building
Vendor Fee: $20 flat fee to cover marketing and signage (some tenants host vendors in their own studios at no cost—ask if you know one!)
Wall Artists Welcome: We have plenty of wall space! If you're a 2D artist and only need vertical display space, let us know. You're easier to accommodate and will be prioritized.
Display: Vendors are responsible for bringing their own tables and wall hanging tools (command strips, hammers, nails)
Spots: All spaces are marked off and labeled day-of—find your name, or come to see me, Brianna, at Studio 2G for help
Food Vendors: Set up outside near the parking lot. This summer’s event includes Chetter Butts BBQ, Lovewell Coffee Co., Taters & Bunwiches, BB Charcuterie, and possibly Jubie's Creamery.
How Vendor Selection Works
We curate each event carefully to ensure a variety of vendor types and a good fit with the studio environment. Some applicants may be waitlisted or passed over based on availability, redundancy, or category conflict with tenant businesses. That said, our waitlist is short, and we often make last-minute additions. If you're a good fit, there’s still a chance we can include you—especially if you’re a local creative.
